The weight of the world
You’ve probably heard me say it’s a good thing to Don’t Care What Anyone Thinks®. And at its base that’s still a thing I believe. I’ve told the story of the first girl I dated, and how awkward and nervous I was, awed that she wanted to hang out with me. I tried too hard and wasn’t myself. When she finally dumped me it broke a spell and I saw how weighed down I was by my own fears, the importance of impressing this girl.
It felt like the weight of the world had been lifted. She agreed to one last date that was already planned for her birthday, it was loose, we laughed and I learned a massive lesson.
We can’t fully let go of caring what others thing, or of having to prove ourselves, but if you find yourself weighed down, or overwhelmed by the energy – ask yourself, is this me or is it the weight of the world? Then let it go. This is nobody else’s life but your own.
