Embrace the Critique

Nobody likes to be wrong. When you tell someone a thing they could do better, or point out an error, don’t expect them to understand that you’re trying to help. Critiques hurt and humans don’t like hurt.

But I encourage you to embrace critiques, listen carefully, make good critical decisions. Someone who loves you won’t likely be trying to tear you down. Maybe the criticism is ham fisted, or unclear, or even unwarranted. But take a beat and think about it.

Teachers, coaches, mentors… we’re used to hearing what they say. But listen to your peers too. Not saying take a critique point blank, but don’t brush it off instantly either.
